Our Guardian Home Program is an innovative and unique opportunity to become the proud owner of a beautiful Golden Retriever while actively supporting our breeding program. This program is thoughtfully designed to ensure that our breeding dogs receive exceptional care, individualized attention, and the benefits of living in a loving family environment. We believe dogs thrive best in a home setting, and our ultimate goal is to provide each dog with a forever home from puppyhood throughout their entire life.
We view the Guardian Home Program as a true win-win. Guardian families enjoy the companionship, loyalty, and affection of a high-quality Golden Retriever at a reduced cost, while also contributing to the development of healthy, well-adjusted, and responsibly bred puppies. At the same time, our breeding dogs receive the love and care they deserve, and our program benefits from the continued quality and diversity of our lines.
Becoming a guardian home is a significant commitment and should not be entered into lightly. While the dog is in the guardian’s care, OC Goldens retains full legal ownership and AKC registration rights until the dog is officially retired from our breeding program. Guardians are legally obligated to adhere to the terms outlined in the guardian contract. Our dogs are carefully selected to strengthen and improve our program, and for this reason, the Guardian Home Program is not suitable for everyone. We encourage all prospective guardians to carefully consider the responsibilities and long-term commitment involved before applying.

About every 6 to 8 months.
A female’s heat cycle typically lasts 18 days.
At first, vaginal discharge is blood-tinged (you’ll notice a drop of blood on your floor) and the vulva is swollen.
Typically you may notice a drop of blood on the floor here or there. For tile or wood floors, this is easy to clean up. All of our females wear a reusable cloth doggie diaper with a feminine panty liner to keep clean up to a minimum. Each female is different but most keep themselves quite clean.
No. She will likely have a bloody discharge for the first week but then when the female is receptive to males, her vaginal discharge decreases in amount and is straw-colored.
A female in heat can attract male dogs by her scent so, it’s important to not let her outside alone unsupervised while she’s in heat, even if you have a fenced yard.
While mama dogs are very attached to their puppies when they’re born, and rarely leave their whelping pen, they start to wean them naturally when the puppies are about 6 weeks old. Slowly they nurse them less and less and start to become more and more interested in getting out and about for periods of time away from their puppies. By the time the puppies are 8 weeks old, the mama dog is ready to see them go! She’s happy to be back home with her family again.
Our guardian dogs love people and are happy to be here with us and also having the opportunity to play with the other dogs here. We stay familiar to them by seeing them for vet appointments, and seeing them at Pampered Paws Pet Spa. We make sure she feels as at home here as possible and has a comfortable, relaxing setting to have her puppies. Once they’re born, her puppies are all she will think about and will want to be with them constantly. So, no she won’t be sitting around feeling sad about where she’s at.
All of our females are retired at 6 years of age, so could have about 4 litters.
Hello and thank you for for visiting our website and for considering us as you prepare to welcome a new family member. We are honored to be part of this exciting journey with you.
Here is how our waitlist process works:
A $500.00 deposit is required to be placed on the waitlist and is non-refundable. This will be applied towards the purchase price.
When will I be notified for an available puppy:
Once a litter is Whelped, we wait 72 hours before announcing the litter to families on our waitlist. At that time, families will be moved from the waitlist to the litter page in the order of which deposits were received. Families who are not selected for a particular litter will move up on the waitlist for the next available litter. When you are contacted regarding an available puppy, if you are not satisfied with your selection, you may defer your choice one time only. After a deferral, you will be required to select from the next available litter when it becomes available.
How long should I expect to be on a waitlist:
That depends on when our females come into season for breeding and timing. We can't guarantee how many puppies will be in a litter nor the amount of Boy's & Girl's. Typically a wait time for a puppy can be 6 to 12 months.
Visiting our parent dogs:
For the health and safety of our dogs, we do not allow visitors in our home while females are in breeding season, during pregnancy, or while a litter is present throughout the entire eight-week period.
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us. Otherwise, you may proceed with reserving your new family member. We look forward to working with you and assisting you through this exciting process.
